Indiana Recruiting Class Garners National Acclaim

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - - College Soccer News released its annual rankings of the top 40 recruiting classes in the nation today with Indiana claiming the No. 2 spot. Duke was rated No. 1 overall on a list that features three Big Ten teams (no. 21 Northwestern, no. 37 Michigan).
Head coach Mike Freitag and his staff will welcome seven newcomers to the pitch this fall, four of whom earned All-America status. Forward Andy Adlard (Hartland, Wis./Brookfield East) is a two-time NSCAA Youth All-American and played his club soccer with the Chicago Magic. Also a forward, Alec Purdie (Elkhart, Ind./Central) was a high school All-American and was the top scorer in the state of Indiana this past season.
The 2006 NSCAA Missouri Player of the Year, forward Michael Roach (St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade Prep) led his team to a Missouri state championship while earning NSCAA All-America honors along the way. Forward Max Weston (Worthington, Ohio/Worthington Christian) was honored by the NSCAA after leading Worthington Christian to the state title and a 20-1-1 record.
Also part of this highly-touted recruiting class is midfielder Rich Balchan (Carmel, Ind./Carmel). Balchan was a key component of the Greyhounds' state championship run and perfect 23-0 record. His teammate Tyler McCarroll (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) became the school's all-time assists leader while earning first-team all-state honors.
Rounding out the class is goalkeeper Michael Munroe (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central). The younger brother of current IU netminder Chris Munroe, Michael earned honorable mention all-state accolades with a 0.49 GAA.
Preseason practice gets underway on Aug. 15 as the squad prepares for its home opener vs. Maryland in the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic on Aug. 31. The Hoosiers will also face preseason No. 1 UCLA on Sept. 2.
