BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University volleyball team announced their 2007 team captains after Wednesday's practice. The Hoosier players voted Seniors Gabrielle Allison and Juli Pierce to serve as captains this season.
"I am really excited about the leadership skills of this entire senior class," said Head Coach Sherry Dunbar. "These two (Allison and Pierce) exemplify what we want our student-athletes to be on and off the court. I am very comfortable with them to serve as a liaison between the coaches and the rest of the players. They are too different types of leaders: Juli leads more by example while Gabby is a vocal leader for this team."
Allison brings loads of experience with 64 matches played over the last three seasons. She tallied double-digit kill totals in three matches in 2006, including a career-high 13 kills at Michigan State. The Academic All-Big Ten honoree also racked up 105 total blocks in '06, the second most on the team.
"We have a great group of girls on this team and it is a privilege to be able to represent our team out on the court," said Allison.
Pierce, a 2006 Academic All-Big Ten selection also, led the Hoosiers with 381 digs last season which is the fourth highest single-season total in IU history. She will rarely leave the court this season, serving as either the libero or defensive specialist.
"I am excited to lead this team," said Pierce. "The players and coaching staff expect big things this year, and Gabby and I can lead this team to those big things.
