Bard Finishes 7th in 200 Backstroke at Japan International

CHIBA, Japan - Presley Bard (Napa, Calif./Napa) led the USA squad with a seventh-place finish in the 200-meter backstroke on day three of the Japan International Swim Meet at the Chiba International General Swimming Center in Chiba, Japan.
Bard touched the wall in the final in a time of 2:13.34. Bard moved up to 36th in the world this year in the event with a mark of 2:12.89 in the prelims. Indiana teammate Ashley Jones (Joliet, Ill./Minooka Community) was 17th in the preliminaries with a time of 2:16.41.
On the men's side, Ben Hesen (Jeffersonville, Ind./Jeffersonville) placed 14th in the men's 200-meter backstroke preliminaries at 2:02.46. That is a personal best for Hesen, topping his previous mark by more than two seconds.
The meet concludes tomorrow with all four Hoosier swimmers in action. Bard will compete in the women's 50-meter freestyle, with Jones taking part in the 200 individual medley. Hesen and Todd Patrick (Chesterfield, Mo./Marquette) will take part in the 100 butterfly, with Patrick also swimming the 200 individual medley.
