BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - At the annual Traditions and Spirit of IU event at Memorial Stadium, head football coach Bill Lynch announced that all freshmen will receive one complimentary ticket to the season-opening game against Indiana State on Saturday, Sept. 1.
"You're standing in the football stadium where your Hoosiers will play next Saturday," Lynch said. "We're getting ready to play next week and our guys have worked really hard. We want you to be a part of it next Saturday. We need to have great crowds, and that means we have to have outstanding student attendance.
"I expect all of you to be right here as you are right now," he continued. "So I've got a deal for you. We need you here next Saturday - I want to see you in the parking lot to greet our team and then in the stadium to support us. So the first game's on me. As you leave today, there will be a free ticket at the gate waiting for you."
Freshmen who did not attend Traditions and Spirit may claim their free ticket at the IU Athletics Ticket Office in Assembly Hall by presenting their student ID.
In addition to Lynch, women's basketball coach Felisha Legette-Jack and men's basketball coach Kelvin Sampson addressed the raucous freshman crowd. Additionally, there was a video presentation that featured volleyball coach Sherry Dunbar and men's soccer coach Mike Freitag.
