BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Senior Lauren Ditteon is currently enjoying a stellar beginning to her senior season, hitting .311 and stuffing the stat sheet with 116 kills, 99 digs, 21 service aces, 32 blocks and 25 assists thus far. The Terre Haute, Indiana native has provided consistent play through the first 12 matches, starting all of them.
IUHoosiers.com stopped in after Monday's volleyball practice to catch up with Ditteon and ask her a few questions ...
1. Why did you choose to come to IU?
"I have always wanted to play at a Big Ten school and IU is close to home. My family is at every single home match and I enjoy having them there."
2. The volleyball team played their first home matches of the season this past weekend at the IU adidas Classic. What was it like to be playing in front of a home crowd again?
"The atmosphere and energy was great. That's something you don't get when you are playing on the road."
3. After posting a 9-3 record in the non-conference slate, the Hoosiers are set to begin Big Ten play at Iowa and Minnesota this upcoming weekend. Share with us your expectations for the conference road trip.
"Playing in the Big Ten is obviously a lot different, but I think if we keep playing the way we have been and keep building then we will do really well in the Big Ten this year."
4. Where is your favorite place to go on the Bloomington campus and why?
"I enjoy going to the fountain outside the music library because I like the sound of the water running and it's really relaxing."
5. What is your favorite part about the travel of IU volleyball?
"I love the IU planes and I enjoy spending time with my teammates and getting to know them better."
6. What do you like best about playing for Coach Dunbar and the rest of the Hoosier coaching staff?
"Coach Dunbar has taken the team's game and my individual game to another level. Things are happening that I never thought were possible."
7. You have played in more career matches than anyone on the team and rank either first or second in every single career statistical category among active players. How do you use that experience as a tool to lead your teammates?
"By playing in the Big Ten before I can try tell some of these girls that haven't played in the Big Ten yet what to expect and what needs to be changed in order for us succeed. I also think my teammates can help me, it's about guiding each other and giving each other direction."
8. What are you going to miss most about your time as a Hoosier volleyball player after your senior season comes to a conclusion?
"I am going to miss coming to practice every day and seeing all of my teammates and working on getting better every day."
9. Academics are obviously very important to you, evidenced by your Academic All-Big Ten honor in 2006. What are you plans after school with your degree in exercise science?
"I am hoping to go to physical therapy school and become a physical therapist."
10. Why did you choose to wear the number 19?
"I chose to wear the number 19 in memory of my grandfather, who passed away December 19th. My family says I am a lot like him, but I didn't really get to know him that well, so I chose to wear number 19."
