Indiana Downed By Golden Gophers

Sophomore Kelsey Hall led the Hoosiers in both kills (12) and digs (10) in the 30-32, 16-30, 21-30 defeat. With a 30-29 lead in game one, the Hoosiers nearly recorded the game-winning block, but it fell just outside the line.
Game one was an up and down, see-saw battle as both teams put together impressive runs. It started with the Hoosiers taking a 7-3 lead before watching Minnesota snag the next nine points to pull ahead 12-7. Indiana counterpunched by knotting the score back at 24-24. Freshman Ashley Benson led with six kills in the opener. When Minnesota took a 29-28 lead, IU Head Coach Sherry Dunbar took her second and final timeout to regroup her team; and it worked as the Hoosiers pulled ahead by taking the next two points at 30-29. Then, as mentioned above, Indiana looked to have won the game with a big-time block, but the ball was called out as it landed just outside the line. Indiana out-hit the Gophers .241 to .196, but came up just short in the 30-32 defeat.
Unfortunately, the Hoosier offense couldn't keep the offense going the next two games. Hall did get hot in game three, however, connecting on six kills with two errors on 12 attempts (.333). Freshman Morgan Miller also played well in the final game, digging seven balls.
The Cream and Crimson will return home next weekend and welcome #3 Penn State and #23 Ohio State to University Gym. First up is a Friday night match against the Nittany Lions at 7 p.m., followed by a 7 p.m. showdown with Ohio State on Saturday night.
