BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Three members of the Indiana men's tennis team began the 2007-08 season by traveling to the Tom Fallon Invitational at Notre Dame University. A different trio of Hoosier tennis players will begin their season Saturday at the All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Other schools competing at the Tom Fallon Invitational include: Ball State, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Purdue and Western Michigan. Senior Peter Antons and Freshmen Santiago Gruter and Jai Yoon competed for IU.
The threesome took on Notre Dame's top three players to begin Friday's action. Antons seized a 6-4, 6-3 win over Patrick Callaghan while Gruter and Yoon suffered losses in their first collegiate matches.
Gruter pulled off a three-set win in his second match of the day. Meanwhile, Antons and Yoon both fell just short in close matches. Antons dropped a 7-5, 7-5 decision while Yoon lost in a three-setter.
