Dunbar Recognized by the Southern Conference

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University Head Volleyball Coach Sherry Dunbar was recently recognized by the Southern Conference as a member of their "25 of Distinction" team, in conjunction the SoCON's 25th anniversary of women's sports championships.
The "25 of Distinction" team is comprised of student-athletes, coaches and administrators who have been instrumental in the growth of women's championships. The Southern Conference is having a year-long celebration for the anniversary, which includes the selection of the best performers over the past 25 years in nine different sports.
"I am honored to be selected for the 25th anniversary of women's sports championships in the Southern Conference," said Dunbar. "I was very fortunate to coach some great student-athletes in my four years at the College of Charleston."
Dunbar served as the Cougars' head coach during their best stretch in school history from 2003-06. She compiled an overall record of 113-22 (.837), with four SoCON regular season titles, three SoCON tournament titles and three trips to the NCAA Regionals, advancing to the second round in 2005. Dunbar collected SoCon Coach of the Year honors in 2003 and 2005 while earning honorable mention for the Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) Coach of the Year award in 2005.
"Being the first volleyball team in Southern Conference history to make the second round of the NCAA's was definitely a highlight of my time down in Charleston," said Dunbar. "I have fond memories of the many milestones we were able to accomplish."
Dunbar, and the rest of the anniversary recipients will be honored at a special brunch ceremony on Sunday, Mar. 9 at the SoCON basketball championship tournaments.
