BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University men's tennis team earned two more 7-0 victories on Friday, downing Eastern Kentucky and Indiana State. In four dual matches this week, the Hoosiers dropped just one match, a doubles contest.
Thomas Richter and Lachlan Ferguson served as the No. 1 doubles team against Eastern Kentucky, picking up an 8-4 win over Lars Gratzki and Johannes John. The tandem of Dara McLoughlin and Phillip Eilers won by the same score at second doubles while Peter Antons and Santiago Gruter defeated the Colonels' No. 3 doubles team, 8-3, to sweep the doubles action.
Indiana had little trouble in the singles matches, winning five of them in straight sets. McCarthy, playing at No. 5 singles, pulled off a 6-3 win in the third and final set to cap off the 7-0 IU triumph.
The Hoosiers swapped the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams for the Indiana State match, but the result was the same as Indiana swept all three contests. The Cream and Crimson then dominated the singles competition over the Sycamores. Only one set came closer than 6-3 as Indiana rolled up straight-set wins at all singles positions.
The non-conference slate takes a break as Indiana begins Big Ten play on Saturday, Feb. 2. The Hoosiers are scheduled to play a road match against the Iowa Hawkeyes at noon.
