BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's basketball team used part of its holiday break to send letters to local troops who were deployed on Jan. 2 to serve in Iraq.
The team adopted 12 soldiers and sent them autographed posters and stickers, along with letters. All 12 soldiers are National Guardsmen and are part of the 2nd Battalion 150th Field Artillery, headquartered in Bloomington. Eleven soldiers were deployed to Fort Stewart, Ga., while one of the soldiers is currently in Iraq and has been since June 2007. The group of 11 was deployed from the RCA Dome in Indianapolis on Jan. 2 and will then move on to Iraq in February.
The Hoosiers return to action on Thursday, Jan. 10 when they travel to Columbus to face preseason Big Ten favorite No. 20 Ohio State. Tip-off against the Buckeyes is set for 7 p.m. ET and can be heard live on WHCC 105.1 FM in Bloomington.
