BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - IUHoosiers.com wraps up its look into the Indiana women's basketball freshmen class with rookie Ashlee Mells.
Mells averaged 15.0 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game as a senior at South Grand Prairie High School. She was a McDonald's All-America nominee and earned first team all-district honors in 2008. The Grand Prairie, Texas, native was named the District 7-5A Co-Offensive Player of the Year in 2007, and also earned 2006 District 6-5A Most Valuable Player honors and Player of the Year accolades in 2004 and 2005. Mells helped South Grand Prairie to a District 6-5A Championship in 2005-06 and was an all-region and all-state selection.
Mells, who was born in Memphis, Tenn., is the daughter of Ricky and Bernice Mells.

Why did you choose Indiana?
I love everything it has to offer. Its in one of the top conference in the nation. I love the history and the people here. They support every positive things you do at IU.
What kind of legacy do you wish to leave behind at IU?
That I was the best role model, student, and basketball player that I can be.
What is your greatest sports memory?
Being the only 8th grader at the adidas Showcase Tournament in Atlanta and getting nominated for McDonald's All-America game.
Do you have any pre-game rituals and what are they?
I listen to my game time playlist on my iPod and get focused.
I want: to be a NATIONAL CHAMPION.
