Robinson Leads IU Women's Cross Country at Pre-Nationals

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Redshirt junior Wendi Robinson was the first Hoosier to cross the finish line at the Pre-Nationals Blue 6K Women's Race at the LaVern Gibson Course in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday, Oct. 18. The women's team finished 14th among 41 teams with a score of 438 points.
Robinson finished 23rd among a field of 278 with a time of 20:52.5 to lead the women's team for a new personal-best on a 6K course. Redshirt sophomore Sarah Pease finished 78th overall in 21:34.1. Senior Kristina Trcka was the third Hoosier to cross the finish line with a time of 21:43.3 for 90th overall. Freshman Chelsea Blanchard finished in 104th place with a time of 21:54.7, and redshirt junior Caity Lauer wrapped up the IU top five in 143rd place with a time of 22:17.7.
Freshmen Kaylan Comer and Breanne Ehrman were the sixth (216th/22:59.4) and seventh (276th/25:30.1) Hoosiers to cross the finish, respectively.
"The women's team did a great job today," IU Director and Head Cross Country and Track and Field Coach Ron Helmer said. "To finish in 14th place and beat some of the teams that we did today, shows that we are taking positive steps forward."
In the women's open 6K, sophomore Natalie Goolik finished 82nd (23:17.7), junior Jenny Kulow placed 83rd (23:19.4), freshman Erin Walgamuth finished in 131st place (24:38.9) and freshman Helene Delone placed 140th (25:13.5).
The Hoosiers will take a break from competition next week to prepare for the Big Ten Championships on Sunday, Nov. 2 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
