BLOOOMINGTON, Ind. - Head Coach Sherry Dunbar announced the signing of three recruits for the class of 2009 on Wednesday. Shawn Hindman, Kelci Marschall and Sam Thrower will each be donning the Cream and Crimson next season for IU Volleyball.
"These three young ladies will be a great addition to our Hoosier family," said Dunbar. "We had a chance to get to know their families very well during the recruiting process and feel very comfortable with what they will add not only on the volleyball court but to the character and personalities of this team."

Hindman is an AAU All-American hailing from Houston, Texas. PrepVolleyball.com named her a Senior Top-150 in the country. Hindman has earned first-team all-district and all-state recognition as well as being a two-time academic all-district squad team member. She is also a recipient of the "Team Heart Award," given by her high school coaches. Has played for the Tornados Club Junior Olympic Team the past three years. Shawn is the daughter of Michael and Cheryl Hindman.
"Shawn has played mostly the right-side position but will definitely see time training on the outside here at Indiana," said Dunbar. "She has the body of a Big Ten athlete and is known as `the hammer' in Texas. She has the passion and determination to reach big heights while a Hoosier."

Marschall is a southpaw, right-side hitter from New London, Ohio. She is a two-time All-Ohio honoree and was named the District 4 Player of the Year this season. Marschall also gathered Player of the Year recognition from the Ohio Cardinal Conference and the Akron Beacon Journal. She was an all-conference basketball player as well and has a brother, Erik, who plays basketball at Bowling Green State University. Kecli is the daughter of Dale and Deedee Marschall.
"Kelci is a true right-side player," said Dunbar. "At 6'2 and a lefty, she has a dynamic approach and is a solid blocker. She is very mature and responsible; knowing how hard you have to work to get what you want."

Thrower comes to Bloomington from Sycamore, Ill., after leading Club Fusion to an 11th place finish at Nationals. She is a three-time All-Illinois and all-conference player at Sycamore High School. PrepVolleyball.com has named her a Senior Ace. Thrower, who can touch 10'2," racked up 525 kills in her final two years of high school while hitting at a .458 clip. She also dominated the defensive frontcourt with nearly 200 blocks over the past two seasons. Sam is the daughter of Shawn and Lorri Thrower.
"Sam is raw talent coming from a very good club program ... Fusion ... and will only get better as she transitions to Big Ten volleyball," said Dunbar. "Her potential as a blocker at this level is limitless. We look forward to watching and helping her succeed."
"Each one of these players knows what our plan is at Indiana and what we need from them to help us reach our goals," said Dunbar. "They are already thinking in those terms with their training and their mentality. We have been very clear about where we want to take this program and all four of them are on board. They can't wait to be a part of the Hoosier family."
The 2008 Indiana Volleyball team wraps up their home schedule this weekend, hosting Wisconsin and Northwestern on Friday and Saturday, respectively, inside University Gym.
