BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Senior Danitra Castro and junior Meg O’Connell have been named to the Longstreth/NFHCA All-West Region second team, marking the sixth straight year that Indiana has had multiple recipients of the regional honor.
Castro scored three goals in 2008 and registered two assists. A starting fullback for the Hoosiers, Castro made an impact on offense from her defensive post. Castro was a member of the All-Big Ten Tournament team and has been selected to play in the NFHCA Senior All-Star game on Saturday, Nov. 22. That game will be played in Louisville, Ky., at 7:30 p.m. ET.
O'Connell was the leader in points and goals for Indiana. She had 16 points and 7 goals on the season. Her three game-winning goals are the fourth most in a season for a Hoosier, and her seven goals are the seventh most in a season in IU History. O’Connell was honored as a Second Team All-Big Ten player.
The last Hoosiers to earn the recognition were Meredith Brown and Haley Exner in 2007. The Hoosiers have had multiple honorees since the 2003 season, with the most coming in 2005 (4).
