Fischer is Flawless on Day Two of IU Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The IU Invitational continued on Saturday inside the IU Tennis Center. Day two of the event saw Indiana win four of seven singles matches and four out of six on the doubles court.
There was one round of singles sandwiched by a pair of doubles rounds. Senior captain Sigrid Fischer posted a flawless record on the day, going 3-0. She began her day by teaming up with Katya Zapadalova in defeating DePaul's Dunja Antunovic and Katarina Milinkovic, 8-5 in their first of two doubles victories on Saturday. That IU duo would later topple the Wisconsin Badger team of Angela Chupa and Katya Mirnova by the same 8-5 tally. Fischer's singles triumph was a tough one as she battled back from a first-set loss to win it in three, taking the third-set, 10-point tiebreaker, 10-3, over April Kerr of Western Michigan.
The Hoosiers swept round number three of doubles in the afternoon. In addition to Fischer and Zapadalova's win, two other Hoosier teams arose victorious. Myriam Sopel and Lyndsey Stuckey won 8-5 while Alba Berdala and Charlotte Martin posted an 8-4 win.
Fischer was joined by three teammates in the singles win column. Stuckey had arguably the easiest match, taking out Amanda Moccia (WMU) in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. Martin was also a straight-set winner while Sopel snagged a 10-7 tiebreaker in the third set to defeat Yumi Matsuto of Western Michigan.

DAY ONE RECAP
The Indiana University women's tennis team hosted day one of the IU Invitational on Friday, welcoming DePaul, Western Michigan and Wisconsin to the IU Tennis Center.
Indiana won six of eight singles matches on the day while splitting four doubles contests. A trio of Hoosiers won both their singles and doubles matches as Sigrid Fischer, Stephanie Heller and Katya Zapadalova went 2-0 on the first day of competition.
Fiscer opened the day with a three-set thriller, outlasting Wisconsin's Angela Chupa in a 13-11 tiebreaker victory. She then teamed with Zapadalova in defeating April Kerr and Ashley Moccia of Western Michigan, 8-3. In singles play, Zapadalova won the "battle of the Katya's," defeating Katya Mirnova (Wisconsin), 6-3, 7-5, in straight sets. Heller rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 winner in singles action before pairing with Maria Guerreiro for an 8-3 besting of Western Michigan's Rachel Denny and Jenny Nalepa on the doubles court.
Additional victors in singles for the Cream and Crimson included Charlotte Martin, Myriam Sopel and Lindsey Stuckey. Stuckey had the shortest match as her opponent was forced to retire due to injury with Stuckey leading 6-5 in the first set. Martin was not far behind, however, as she made quick work of Emese Kardhordo of Wisconsin, 6-2, 6-2. Sopel followed a first-set tiebreaker win with a 6-4 second set to grab the `W."
