BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Erica Short, a senior captain for the '08 IU volleyball squad, was named Honorable Mention All-America on Wednesday (Nov. 17). The 2008 season marks the 28th year that the American Volleyball Coaches' Association has named an All-American team.
"It is such an honor to receive this award," said Short. "I never could have reached this goal without the help of my teammates, coaches, family and fans."
Short has put herself in elite company with this recognition, as the last and only other Hoosier to ever earn All-America laurels was Karen Dunham back in 1985 when she garnered honorable mention as well.
"Erica has helped lay the foundation for where this program is heading," said Head Coach Sherry Dunbar. "I am so so proud of the improvements she made her senior season and very happy she earned this recognition."
Short's team-leading 554 kills were just one put-away shy of tying the IU single season record set by Christina Archibald in 2002. Short shattered Archibald's career kills total (1,808), however, compiling 1,889 in her four years in Bloomington, becoming IU's all-time kills queen. Averaging 4.54 kills per set in 2008, Short ranked in the national top-ten in that category, coming in at ninth place.
