BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Big Ten Conference has announced that Indiana University student-athletes claimed 77 Academic All-Big Ten Conference selections for the fall term. Athletes must be letterwinners in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better to be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection. A total of 680 fall sports athletes were recognized by the Big Ten across the seven fall sports. All seven sports were represented by the 77 Hoosiers selected, and Indiana boasts the second-most honorees in the conference with just three less than Ohio State.
"We are proud of our student-athletes who continue to work at the highest levels both on and off the field," Associate Athletic Director for Student Development Dr. M. Grace Calhoun said. "These 77 honorees represent Indiana University in a first-class manner and we are pleased the Big Ten recognized their accomplishments."
Junior field hockey standout Brittney Hacken, a biology major, maintained an unblemished 4.0 GPA. She was one of the 14 field hockey players honored by the conference, which is the most for any field hockey team in the Big Ten this season.
The Hoosier football team led the way with 22 honorees, followed by the cross country teams with 16 and field hockey. The women's soccer team garnered 12 honorees, while the men's soccer team pulled in 10 and the volleyball team had three players honored.
