BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) announced its Western Division Player of the Week recipient today, and Indiana freshman Lauren Wyckoff was named co-player of the week along with Alison Mantel from the University of Michigan.
A native of Los Altos, Calif., Wyckoff scored four goals this past weekend at the Triton Invitational hosted by the University of California-San Diego. In the Hoosiers second game of the tournament, she scored two goals in the first half to allow IU to mount a comeback in the second half against California Baptist to get the 9-8 win.
In the next game, against No. 20 California State - Bakersfield, Wyckoff tallied two goals in the first quarter to get the Hoosiers out in front to stay in an 8-4 win.
"This weekend was really about the freshmen," IU head coach Barry King said after the tournament last weekend. "and how they are staring to develop their sense of power and pace of the game at the college level. (Lauren) Wyckoff had a tremendous weekend for us, as did (Nicole) Redder, who did a tremendous job on defense. But the best performance of the weekend has to go to Lauren Wyckoff."
The Hoosiers will be in Princeton, N.J. this weekend for the Princeton Invite, starting with a game against the Tigers on Saturday at 9 a.m.
