In the weeks leading up to the 2008 season, IUHoosiers.com will be introducing you to the newest members of the Indiana Baseball team. The newcomer profile for Sunday, Feb. 3, is of freshman infielder Jeff Caldwell.
Native Floridian Jeff Caldwell joins the Hoosiers in 2008 after helping Bishop Moore Catholic High School to the 2007 Class 4A state championship. Caldwell hit .400 on the season with six home runs, 10 doubles, 35 RBIs and a .716 slugging percentage.
The 6-foot-3 first baseman also played for Bishop Moore in 2006, as the team took home a regional championship. In addition to playing for Bishop Moore, Caldwell played travel ball for the Florida Legends in 2006 after playing for the Central Florida Cougars in 2005. He helped the Legends to the Under-18 title at the Triple Crown St. Augustine Fall Nationals in 2006 as the squad put together a perfect 5-0 record.
The son of Jeff and Barbara Caldwell was born on May 18, 1989, and intends to major in psychology at IU.
