Hoosiers Fall In Shootout At Loyola Marymount, 14-11

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Indiana women's water polo team brought its four-game road trip to California to a close on Friday afternoon against No. 11 Loyola Marymount Lions. The Lions held the lead throughout the game and extended their lead in the fourth quarter in a 14-11 win over the Hoosiers. Senior attacker Brooke Zimmerman led Indiana (10-10) once again in goals scored with five and Kelsey Campbell added three.
LMU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter before Maggie Hannon scored with one second remaining to bring Indiana to within two goals at 3-1. Two goals by Zimmerman in the second period evened the score at 3-3 and Amy Moore's goal with just over three minutes left before intermission tied the game at 4-4.
Kelly Palmberg cut into a three goal LMU lead just before halftime with her only goal of the game. In the third period, both teams found the back of the goal twice, allowing LMU to hold onto a 9-7 lead with eight minutes remaining.
But in the fourth, Loyola Marymound did not let up and extended its lead to 14-9 at one point before the Hoosiers rallied late to bring it to a 14-11 final on two goals apiece by Zimmerman and Campbell.
Katie Carson made four saves in goal to keep the Hoosiers within striking distance.
Indiana will use Saturday to travel back to the Midwest before opening CWPA Western Division play on Sunday at Michigan. The game is slated to begin at Noon in Ann Arbor, Mich.
