BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The #33 Indiana University women's tennis team moved to 12-3 on the year with a 5-2 win at Maryland on Saturday. Senior captain Brianna Williams continued her hot streak, improving to 14-1 in singles competition during the dual match season with a three-set victory over Oksana Krutiyenko.
Indiana began by sweeping the doubles competition. Williams teamed up with Myriam Sopel for an 8-4 triumph in the No. 1 doubles slot. Juniors Sigrid Fischer and Stephanie Heller were also 8-4 winners, downing Krutiyenko and Karin Lundmark in the No. 3 doubles match by the same score. Alba Berdala and Charlotte Martin capped off the Hoosier doubles sweep with a 7-6 win in the second doubles match.
The Hoosiers depth was key in Saturday's win as the No. 3 through No. 6 singles positions all went in favor of the Cream and Crimson. Three of those four contests went into a third set which ended with an IU victory. Martin, Fischer, and Williams were all three-set winners while sophomore Lindsey Stuckey won in straight sets versus Lisa Miller, 6-2, 6-2.
