BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The National Field Hockey Coaches Association recently announced its list of the field hockey teams with a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher and Indiana's 3.51 team GPA put them in a tie for second with American University. Old Dominion was the top team in the country with a 3.68 team GPA.
When all was totaled, 61 teams posted a team GPA of 3.0 or higher, but only four were at or above 3.5, with the University of Maine joining the three previously mentioned schools.
"This recognition from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association for our field hockey student-athletes is tremendous," Indiana field hockey head coach Amy Robertson said. "It shows that all the hard work we put into the classroom has paid off. We had a goal of improving our team GPA and this is the highest average that any IU field hockey team has ever produced. So, to say the least I am very proud of their efforts and diligence.
"A lot of the credit also goes to Kelly Noonan and Brenda Blackburn, our academic advisors," Robertson continued, "for all their dedication and time they spend supporting and caring about our players' personal and academic success."
The Hoosiers were also recognized by the Big Ten Conference for their academic achievements this year when 12 different players received academic all-Big Ten accolades.
