BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana Department of Athletics boasted 28 student-athletes on the 2008 Academic All-Big Ten list for the winter season.
Student-athletes must be letterwinners in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better to be eligible for the honor. A total of 469 student-athletes were recognized by the Big Ten across the seven winter sports.
"We are extremely excited to honor these students who exemplify the high standards that are set for Hoosier student-athletes," Kimya Massey, IU Assistant Director of Athletics for Academic Services, said. "Excelling at this level requires a high level of determination as well as ability and we are proud to recognize their accomplishments as they represent Indiana University."
IU's women's swimming and diving team led the way for the Hoosiers as it held 12 spots on the all-academic list, including sophomore Brittney Feldman. She was named the 2008 Big Ten Diver of the Year, Diver of the Championships and was a first team honoree. Indiana's men's and women's basketball teams combined for six honorees, including Second Team All-Big Ten selection Whitney Thomas.
