Purdie Puts Out the Flames

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -Indiana opened the spring slate of exhibition games on Friday, March 28, with a win over University of Illinois-Chicago. The Hoosiers won by a score of 3-0, led by goals from freshmen Andy Adlard, Alec Purdie and junior Billy Weaver. The final two goals came within a minute of each other.
The Hoosiers took the lead in the games 39th minute on a goal by Adlard and never looked back. The Hoosiers are now 1-0 for their exhibition season.
Weaver's goal came in the 78th minute on a pass from junior Brad Ring. Ring's cross from the left corner left Weaver with an open shot from the straight-on, which he put just under the cross bar to put the Hoosiers up by two.
On the restart, the Hoosiers quickly took control of the ball and on their second trip up the field, Weaver found Purdie from the left side on a break and the freshman beat goalie Jovan Bubonja with a shot into the left corner of the goal, quickly recording his first goal as a Hoosier. The goal came just 1:02 seconds after the previous score, at the 78:10 mark.
The first goal of the game came at the 38:57 mark, when Adlard put the ball past Bubonja from the left side. The goal gave the Hoosiers the lead for good.
The Hoosiers controlled the action the entire game, attempting 13 shots compared to only two for the Flames. The team was also accurate, recording six shots-on-goal in the game.
Indiana returns to action this Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., when the Hoosiers play host to the Louisville Cardinals.
