Two Hoosiers Complete Decathlon at Day Two of Alabama Relays

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Two Hoosiers wrapped up competition in the decathlon at the 2008 Alabama Relays on Saturday, March 28.
Sophomore Chris Sackmann placed fourth overall with a score of 6,108 points, while sophomore Matt Schmitz finished eighth with a final score of 5,823 points in the multi-event.
Sackmann recorded four career bests out of the final five events in the decathlon. He recorded a time of 15.85 in the 110-meter hurdles and career bests in the discus throw (26.39m), pole vault (3.05m), javelin throw (47.45m) and in the 1,500-meters (4:57.10). Schmitz also had a career day with bests in the 110-meter hurdles (17.37), discus throw (28.99m), pole vault (3.65m), javelin throw (39.62m) and in the 1,500-meters (4:27.83).
Assistant coach Jake Wiseman took seventh in the decathlon as he competed unattached and recorded a score of 5,906 points. Wiseman recorded marks of 16.02 in the 110-meter hurdles, 32.82m in the discus throw, 57.65m in the javelin throw and a time of 5:38.64 in the 1,500-meter run. He did not record a height in the pole vault.
