NEWS AND NOTES
• Conditions made the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational a struggle for all teams as winner New Mexico carded a 47-over 623 for the two-round victory. The Hoosiers were tied for 10th at +78 (654).
• For the second-straight tournament, senior Lauren Harling led the way with a two-round total of 162 (+18), finishing tied for 32nd.
• Harling also had the low round of the tournament for IU with a 77 in the opening round.
• Laura Nochta tied for 38 with scores of 81 and 82 (163), while Anita Gahir tied for 47th at 164 (80-84).
• Rainy conditions and wind were key factors that made playing the challenging course even more difficult.
• Indiana hopes to get another crack at the University of Texas Golf Club as it is the site of the 2008 Central Regional, May 8-10.
GREAT MEMORIES
• There is no doubt that senior Elaine Harris is excited to head back to the Mountain View Collegiate as she recorded her first career victory at the tournament in 2007.
• Last year Harris carded a 7-under-par total of 209 (70-69-70), setting a new single-tournament scoring mark in the process.
• For her efforts she was named Golfweek's National Women's Golfer of the Week and Big Ten Golfer of the Week.
HARLING GETS HOT
• Senior Lauren Harling blazed through the Boulder Creek Golf Club course at the UNLV Spring Invitational, March 10-12 in Boulder City, Nev.
• Harling got progressively better over the three-round event, finishing with a season-best 70 on day three.
• Her total score of 216 (E) was a career best with the Hoosiers, while the 70 tied a career mark.
• Harling's finish in a tie for 16th topped her previous IU best finish of 21st at last year's NCAA Central Regional.
• Harling led the Hoosiers for the second-straight tournament by finishing tied for 32nd at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational, March 17-19.
• Over the two week period, Harling has climbed more than 100 spots in Golfweek's individual rankings.
HARLING IS BIG TEN GOLFER OF THE WEEK
• Indiana University senior Lauren Harling is the Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Week, the league office announced March 19. It is the first career Big Ten honor for Harling.
• At the UNLV Spring Invitational, Harling carded a career-best 216 (E) over 54 holes, including a career-low round of 70 on the final day. She finished the tournament in a tie for 16th, also a career best since joining the program last spring.
• For the tournament Harling recorded nine birdies and 38 pars and saw her scores get progressively better with rounds of 74, 72 and 70. She is the first Hoosier golfer this season to finish a tournament at even par or better.
OUT OF THE GATES
• 2007 marked the first time the Hoosiers opened the fall with four-straight top-five finishes since the 2002-03 season.
• Overall this year Indiana has seven top-10 finishes in eight tournaments.
• Indiana is averaging a score of 306.13 per round, which if maintained through the spring would be the fifth-lowest average on record in school history.
• In 2006-07 Indiana finished no worse than 11th in any of its five fall tournaments. In 2007-08 the Hoosiers worst finish was 10th at the Palmetto Intercollegiate.
GOLFWEEK POLL
• Indiana is No. 49 in the latest Golfweek poll, released March 23.
