BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana freshman attacker Nicole Redder was named CWPA Western Division Player of the Week by the Collegiate Water Polo Association on Tuesday. She becomes the second IU freshman to win the award this season, joining Lauren Wyckoff who won the award on Feb. 11.
A native of Grandville, Mich., Redder led the Hoosiers to a 4-0 record at the Elite Six tournament in College Park, Md this past weekend against the top two teams from each of the three CWPA divisions.
She had ten goals through the first 12 games for the Hoosiers this season, but broke out with seven goals, three assists and four steals in the four games at the tournament.
Redder opened the tournament with a two goal effort in a 14-8 win over Brown and followed that up later in the day with a hat trick against Maryland to help Indiana to the 10-9 victory. On day two, she scored one goal against No. 18 Princeton and a goal against No. 15 Hartwick as Indiana completed the four-game sweep.
A graduate of Jenison High School, Redder now has 17 goals, seven assists and 16 steals on the year for IU.
Indiana now stands at 9-7 overall on the season and head to California next week during spring break for four games against three teams in the top 15 in the latest CWPA poll.
