Illinois Eliminates Hoosiers, 4-0

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Indiana University men's tennis team (16-9) was eliminated from the Big Ten Tournament on Friday, dropping a 4-0 decision to Illinois (17-7).
The day began with Illinois grabbing the first two doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Indiana's Lachlan Ferguson and Phillip Eilers entered the ITA's national rankings this week at #39, but fell short Friday against Billy Heiser and Ryan Rowe, 8-4. No. 3 doubles then went in favor of the Fighting Illini as well. Dara McLoughlin and Thomas Richter's 11-match winning streak remains intact as their match was unfinished.
#120 Richter won his first set 6-4 and was tied 5-5 in the second stanza when his match was halted following Illinois' match-clinching fourth team point. McLoughlin was also able to take a set, winning his second set 6-3 before having his match stopped in the third set. Gruter was also unable to complete his contests as singles matches No. 3 through No. 5 all went Illinois' way in straight sets to secure the 4-0 victory.
The Cream and Crimson find out their NCAA Tournament fate on Tuesday, April 29. The NCAA Selection Show is scheduled for 2:00-2:30 p.m. on ESPNEWS.
