BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University center Maggie Hannon was named the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Western Division Player of the Week on Monday, April 7. The native of Ann Arbor, Mich., continued her breakout season with 15 goals in the six-game sweep the Hoosiers posted over the weekend in Western Division play.
She becomes the fourth different Hoosier to garner the award this season, following Brooke Zimmerman (March 24), Nicole Redder (March 4) and Lauren Wyckoff (Feb. 11).
Hannon started quietly with a lone goal against Gannon University in a 17-5 victory, but came out firing the next day against Penn State University-Behrend in a 17-3 win with four goals, tying her then-career high. She tallied two more goals against Mercyhurst College in a 11-7 victory and three against Slippery Rock University in a 13-5 win in the first game on Sunday.
In an 18-6 victory over Washington & Jefferson University, Hannon set a new career-high with five goals to give her 46 for the season.
Entering the 2008 season, the junior had 31 goals in her career, including 18 in 2007.
Further, she helped Indiana to a win against Grove City College (13-4 W) as the Hoosiers closed out the regular season with a 17-13 mark, including a 6-1 record in CWPA Western Division competition.
Indiana, the number two seed, will take on Slippery Rock University on Friday, April 18 at Grove City College in the first round of the Western Division Championships. The match is schedule to start at 7:45 p.m.
