BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Five Hoosiers have been honored by the Big Ten Conference for their performances at the 2008 Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 16-18.
Seniors Kyle Jenkins and Kiwan Lawson each received Big Ten First Team honors for their performances in the triple and long jumps, respectively. Jenkins won the triple jump on a personal-best leap of 16.39 meters on Sunday. Lawson earned his third Big Ten gold medal with a jump of 7.87 meters in the long jump on Saturday. His mark set a new facility record at the Illinois Soccer and Track Stadium in Champaign.
IU's 4x100-meter relay team, made up of junior Marcus Thigpen, freshman Devin Pipkin, junior Wil Glover and Lawson, earned second team honors after grabbing the silver medal on Sunday with a finals time of 40.58.
Jenkins was also named a Big Ten Sportsmanship honoree. He is now a candidate for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, as the conference office will honor one male and one female student-athlete from each institution at the end of the school year.
