Hoosiers Boast 83 Academic All-Big Ten Honorees

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana Department of Athletics boasted 83 student-athletes on the 2008 Big Ten Academic All-Conference teams during the spring season.
That list of Hoosiers includes two 4.0 grade point average student-athletes in junior Drew Allenspach (men's golf; Accounting/Finance) and sophomore Emily Kasavana (rowing; Legal Studies). Allenspach was joined by four of his teammates on the All-Big Ten list, including Big Ten Golfer of the Year and 2008 Big Ten Champion Jorge Campillo. Kasavana is one of 11 members from IU's rowing team that was honored.
"We are thrilled to recognize our student-athletes who continue to demonstrate their ability to achieve success in both academics and athletics," Kimya Massey, IU Assistant Director of Athletics for Academic Services said. "The example has been set for future student-athletes and this is a testament to their fortitude and willingness to work extremely hard to accomplish their goals. We applaud their success and look forward to enjoying more positive results in the future."
IU teams were led by 19 members from the women's track and field team, while the men's track and field team boasted 12 honorees. Softball (nine), baseball (seven), women's golf (six), women's tennis (five), water polo (five), and men's tennis (four) also received the all-conference honor.
