BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana cornerback Bruce Hampton was named the top student in a business-finance course as a part of the Kelley School of Business Integrative Core (I-Core) curriculum. The I-Core program held 230 students this spring.
Hampton, who just completed his junior academic year, is a finance major. The University Heights, Ohio, native saw action in two games this fall, earning his first letter.
"Bruce is a tremendous student and we are very happy to hear about the success he has had in the classroom. He is a intelligent young man and has a bright future ahead of him," head coach Bill Lynch said.
I-core is a semester-long program with four integrated courses--finance, marketing, operations and strategy. The professors coordinate their course materials so that the student is able to easily see the connections between various areas of business, just from different perspectives and approaches.
In all the courses, the student will be asked to apply skills and concepts learned in the previous two years of study. During the semester, the student will also take part in the I-Core Diversity Series, an interactive theatre experience to help the student become more sensitive to diversity in the workplace.
The 10-day case at the end of the student's I-Core semester will give the student a taste of the real business world. The student will learn how to work effectively in a small group with other students to accomplish a common goal, namely preparing an integrated business report. In addition, the team will learn to effectively manage time, utilize individual strengths, and balance differences in personalities, cultural values, language skills and writing abilities.
