OXFORD, Miss. - The Indiana men's tennis team made its way to Oxford, Miss., for the NCAA Regional hosted by the University of Mississippi late Wednesday evening. The Hoosiers got up early Thursday and began their preparations for their first round opponent, Vanderbilt.
The day started with breakfast just before 8:00 a.m. Central time and then boarding the bus to go to the indoor tennis courts at the Gillom Sports Center on the Ole Miss campus. The Hoosiers were originally scheduled to practice on the outdoor courts but heavy rains prompted the move indoors.
After practice, the team went and got lunch before heading to the outdoor courts for the second practice of the day. The team took full advantage of the temperature in the upper 70s at practice, but did have to battle some gusty winds.
The team then took a self-guided tour of the campus before heading out for dinner. The team was directed to a local restaurant for a true southern delicacy - catfish. The Taylor Grocery, located in Taylor, Mississippi, is a local favorite that abides by the slogan "Eat or We Both Starve." And eat the team did, as most of the players and coaches enjoyed Mississippi Style Blackened Catfish along with gumbo.
Next up on the docket for the evening was a trip to the only movie theater in town before returning to the hotel to rest up for another day of practice on Friday.
