EVANSTON, Ill. - Senior first baseman Anna Olson was the Indiana recipient of the Sportsmanship from the Big Ten Conference on Thursday before the start of the Big Ten Tournament hosted by Northwestern University.
The student-athletes chosen for the Sportsmanship Award are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. The student-athletes also must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
Olson, a native of Orland Park, Ill., came on strong at the end of the season and was instrumental in the Hoosiers winning three out of four games against Illinois and Iowa to give themselves a chance to make the Big Ten Tournament. In the first game against Illinois, she hit a two-run single down the right field line that scored the first two runs of the game for Indiana and set up her sister's walk-off grand slam. In game two, she laced a game-tying, three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to force extra innings.
