BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -
Senior attacker Brooke Zimmerman became the fifth Indiana water polo player in the history of the program to be named to an All-America team when the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) named her an honorable mention All-American on Wednesday.
"Brooke is very deserving of this honor and it is a true reflection of the leadership which she provided this team," head coach Barry King said. "The coaching staff and her teammates are very proud of Brooke."
Zimmerman becomes the first Hoosier to earn All-America status since 2005 when Kandace Waldthaler, now an assistant coach with the Hoosiers, was named a third team All-American. In addition to Waldthaler, the other past Indiana players that have received All-American honors include Krista Peterson (2003, 2004), Kristin Stanford (2001, 2002, 2003) and Deb Simone (1998, 1999).
The native of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, scored 77 goals and handed out 56 assists to set new single-season school records in both categories. She finished her three-year career with 206 goals, the third-most in school history, and 151 assists, smashing the previous career-best of 133 set by Kristin Zernicke. In 2008, she had a pair of five-goal games and scored a goal in all but one of the Hoosiers’ 36 games.
Zimmerman was also a three-time All-CWPA Western Division First Team selection and was named to the CWPA Eastern Championships First Team in 2007. The CWPA also recognized her with the CWPA Western Division Player of the Week four times over the course of her three seasons in Bloomington.
