Antons, Gruter Combine to Win on ITA Collegiate Summer Circuit

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Sophomore Santiago Gruter and senior Peter Antons combined to win the doubles title at the Western Michigan site of the 2008 ITA Collegiate Summer Circuit, defeating the team of Jared Connolly and Michael Jacobs for the championship.
The Hoosier duo won 9-7 in the final match to claim the title. That was after taking decisive victories in the preliminary rounds by scores of 8-3, 8-4 and 8-3.
Antons advanced to the quarterfinals in singles action, where he fell to the eventual runner-up, Andrew Gauthier of Cornell. Gruter also advanced in singles competition, winning two matches before falling to Niko Boulieris of Marquette who went on to defeat Gauthier in the final.
Sophomore Chris Foster won two matches in the singles bracket as well, defeating Steve Demaagd of Calvin College and Tyler Richmond along the way. J.J. Bolock, who will be a transfer sophomore this year for the Hoosiers, also won a match. Foster and Bolock paired up to win a doubles match as well.
The Hoosiers are back in action this weekend as Indiana hosts the ITA Regional. The regional begins on Sat. July 26 and runs through Mon. July 28. For results and information on Indiana men's tennis, visit IUHOOSIERS.com.
