First Day Results at the ITA Regional in Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Day one of the ITA Collegiate Summer Circuit Regional in Bloomington saw five Hoosiers (two women, three men) each advance to the third round of the championship bracket. Complete results and updated draws can be found below.
The IU women's tennis team had two representatives in the competition in Stephanie Heller and Lindsey Stuckey. Heller cruised through the first round with a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Michigan State's Ashley Stockwell. Her next match then pitted her against Lauren Shumate of South Florida. Heller arose victorious in her second round bout, 7-5, 6-3.
Stuckey won both of her matches as well. First, was a hard-fought, 7-5, 7-5 victory over Marjorie Ondeck of Memphis; followed by a besting of Butler's Cam Thompson, 6-1, 6-2.
Four current and one former IU men's players were in the field as well. Peter Antons, Lachlan Ferguson, Santiago Gruter and Dara McLoughlin (2004-08) each moved onto the round of sixteen. Antons and Gruter, winners of last weekend's Western Michigan ITA Regional doubles champions, won a pair of contests while Ferguson and McLoughlin each followed up opening round byes with victories to remain in the championship draw.
Incoming Hoosier, J.J. Bolock, rebounded from his first round defeat with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Tony Kanavos from Vincennes to begin his run through the consolation bracket.
