BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University Field Hockey team has added another Pennsylvania native to the roster for the 2008 season. Indiana head field hockey coach Amy Robertson announced that Corey Brautigam (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) will join a Hoosier squad that will feature seven newcomers, including six freshmen.
"Corey has tremendous speed and excellent elimination skills," Robertson said. "She will be seeing time on the forward line and maybe some time at inner. She will bring a lot of energy, excitement and help us create more scoring opportunities in the attacking circle. In the past year, Corey has just started to discover that she has a lot of ability and her growth is going to continue to climb throughout her career. She is also a very good student and person and one who will fit into our team philosophy on and off the field."
Brautigam, a four-year letterwinner at Hempfield High School, played with the United States Field Hockey Association's Olympic Development Select camp in 2008. She joined IU Head Coach Amy Robertson and the USFHA U-19 team in Chile to compete in the Futures Elite Tour. She attended the USFHA Junior National Camp in 2007.
She was a two-time first team All-State selection in Pennsylvania and earned first team all-star accolades in the Lancaster Lebanon League three years in a row in addition to captaining the team her senior year.
"The campus, coaches, players are awesome," Brautigam said about joining IU. "I fell in love with the school when I first stepped foot onto the campus. I am looking forward to joining the IU field hockey team and I am thrilled to be a Hoosier."
The Hoosiers open the 2008 season on August 29 at Rutgers at 4 p.m.
