Sarkodie, Ring Named to Preseason All-America Teams

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University senior midfielder Brad Ring and junior defender Ofori Sarkodie were named to the College Soccer News preseason All-America team released earlier this week.
Ring was named to the first team after an outstanding junior season where he was a unanimous first-team All-Big Ten pick and earned second-team All-America honors from both College Soccer News and National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas. A Big Ten All-Tournament team selection, Ring started all 22 matches and recorded a team-high five goals, while adding six assists for a total of 16 points. He was also an NSCAA/adidas Great Lakes Region first-team honoree and an Academic All-Big Ten selection.
Sarkodie, a second-team pick, earned first-team All-Big Ten honors and third-team NSCAA/adidas Great Lakes Region accolades in 2007 after starting 21 matches and leading a defense that posted 12 shutouts, including five of six Big Ten opponents.
Also this week, Soccer Times released its preseason poll with the Hoosiers occupying the No. 5 slot. Indiana has also earned top-25 notice from College Soccer News (No. 4), and NSCAA/adidas (No. 7).
Ring, Sarkodie and the rest of the IU squad close out the preseason on Friday, Aug. 22 against North Carolina at the National Soccer Festival in Ft. Wayne, Ind. Match time is 7:30 p.m. ET. Indiana is 1-0 in preseason matches after a 3-1 win over Tulsa on Aug. 20.
The regular season schedule kicks off on Aug. 29 against Duke at the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic at Jerry Yeagley Field at Armstrong Stadium. The tournament concludes on Aug. 31 with a match against Akron at 2 p.m. that will be televised live on the Big Ten Network.
