BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University Volleyball program is going to find itself in the national spotlight on several occasions this season, including a pair of matches broadcast on the Big Ten Network and the honor of kicking off the Hoosier Hysteria festivities on Oct. 17.
"We are very excited to be a part of Hoosier Hysteria once again this year," said Head Coach Sherry Dunbar. "Any chance to play in a building with so much tradition like Assembly Hall in front of that many Hoosier fans, is a great opportunity. Once people see the level of competition in Big Ten Volleyball and the excitement involved with it, we think they'll come back and watch us over at University Gym."
Indiana's home match on Oct. 1 versus the defending national champions, Penn State, will be broadcast live to a national audience on the Big Ten Network. The road match at Penn State is also slated to reach millions of households on the BTN (Nov. 5). In addition, two "wild card" match time slots at the end of the season may give IU fans additional opportunities to watch their Hoosiers live in action. Indiana Volleyball made their Big Ten Network debut last year on Oct. 17, 2007 when they regained the Monon Spike with a 3-1 victory over state-rival Purdue.
It was also recently announced that Indiana Volleyball will once again kick off the Hoosier Hysteria festivities. The Ohio State Buckeyes must visit Assembly Hall on Oct. 17 in front of a huge crowd. At last season's Hoosier Hysteria volleyball match, a school-record 11,086 fans showed up to cheer on the volleyball squad. That attendance number finished in the nation's top-five for largest volleyball crowds last season.
