BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana field hockey head coach Amy Robertson has announced the hiring of Kelly Doton as an assistant coach. Doton recently returned from playing for the U.S. Olympic team in Beijing.
"We're absolutely thrilled to hire someone with Kelly's experience with USA Field Hockey and as a U.S. Olympic team member. Even more importantly, she brings with her a winning attitude," Robertson said. "She played a very large role in Wake Forest winning their first national championship and becoming the program they are today."
Doton was recruited to Wake Forest by Robertson and played in Winston-Salem from 2000-03. She was a three-time All-American and was the Honda Award winner as the National Field Hockey Player of the Year as a senior, leading Wake Forest to a national championship that season. Doton has played for USA Field Hockey teams since 2005.
"My relationship with Kelly started as her Futures coach in Massachusetts. She was in eighth or ninth grade," said Robertson. "As an assistant coach at Wake Forest, I recruited her to come down to the South even though she didn't want to leave New England."
Robertson said the Greenfield, Mass., native will work with IU's backs and on penalty corners, both offensively and defensively. Doton graduated from Wake Forest in 2004 with a degree in communications.
