BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Student-athletes and staff from the Indiana Department of Athletics will take time out of their busy schedules to help in the construction of the Karst Playscape at Karst Farm Park in Bloomington on Sept. 13-14. Construction for the playscape is open to the community.
The group of Hoosier student-athletes and staff members that are assisting in the project will also be joined by the Monroe County Prosecutor's Office, the Rogers Group and Options.
The Karst Playscape is being designed for children of all abilities. It will include a playground for 5-12 year olds and 2-5 year olds, and will be a fully accessible play area with soft, rubberized surfacing and ramped access routes. The playscape will also have a water splash pad component and water wheelchairs will also be provided.
The Karst Playscape is part of a larger effort at improving accessible recreation in Monroe County. The partnership is also building an endowment at the community foundation. The first phase of the playscape and endowment has been supported by a matching grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. The partnership is now looking for funding to complete the playscape and grow the endowment. For more information about the park, visit www.weallplay.org.
Volunteers are needed Sept. 12-14 to assist in the construction. Please contact Kelli Witmer at Monroe County Parks and Recreation at (812) 349-2800 or at karstplayscape@yahoo.com.
