ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Indiana Hoosiers hung tough with No.3 UCLA (2-0) in their season opener at the Michigan Kick-off, but a four goal third quarter onslaught was too much, as the Hoosiers were defeated 10-3. Sophomores Nicole Redder and Lauren Wyckoff led the Hoosier scoring attack, as Redder finished with two goals and Wyckoff tallied one.
The game was tightly contested throughout the first two quarters, as the Hoosiers trailed 5-2 at the half.
"I was pleased with the way we competed, and I saw a lot of positive things that we can build on," said head coach Barry King.
Sophomore Kate Dunn played a key role in the Hoosiers defending UCLA's offensive attack.
"Kate Dunn played very well defensively for us, and I thought that was important throughout the game," King said.
Freshman Cassie Wyckoff got the start in her first collegiate contest. Wyckoff tallied four saves and two steals in her debut.
The Hoosiers will resume action at 6:15 p.m. Saturday against No. 5 California.
