Day One Report From New Year's Invitational

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Day one of the New Year's Invitational ended with Indiana's Alex Martin in a tie for 17th place following an even-par 72 in his opening round. Martin was the top performer among seven Hoosiers in the competition.
There are a total of 95 individuals playing in the event. The next lowest score posted by a Hoosier was the 74 carded by Chase Wright, putting him in a tie for 35th place after the first 18 of 72 holes. Ren Han was next on the list for IU, earning a share of 42nd place with an opening round 75.
Freshmen David Erdy and Andrew Frandsen are in the middle of the pack after each posted a 76, good for 49th place. Brandon Pike and Ben Bellville also hit the course on Thursday, recording scores of 81 and 84, respectively.
