IOWA CITY, Iowa - Redshirt freshman Morgan Fleetwood scored at the 53:45 mark to give the Indiana field hockey team a 1-0 win over California on Grant Field in Iowa City, Iowa.
The Hoosiers (7-4) and the Golden Bears (3-6) battled throughout the entire first period matching each other on shots with three a piece. However, the Hoosiers took over in the second period and dominated on offense, outshooting Cal, 8-1, with Fleetwood's goal coming near the 54th minute. She scored on an assist from freshman Brooke Borneman, which was set up by a corner from junior Kelsey Kiper.
Fleetwood took seven shots, with five on goal and redshirt sophomore Brenna Moeljadi took two shots. Junior Alex Mann started in goal for the Hoosiers and tallied one save in 70 minutes. Moeljadi also tallied a defensive save at the 3:35 mark in the first period. Junior Mutsa Mutembwa recorded her third defensive save of the season with 63:46 on the clock.
The Hoosiers return to action on Friday, Oct. 9, when they host Michigan State at 3 p.m. ET on the IU Field Hockey Field.
