BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University women's golf freshman Pamela Burneski was recently named the Washington State Golf Association Women's Player of the Year for 2009.
Burneski, who hails from Surrey, British Columbia, won the 2009 WSGA Women's Amateur Championship at Oakbrook Golf Club in Lakewood, Wash. over the summer. She also won the WSGA Best-Ball Championship with her partner at Bellingham Golf and Country Club in Bellingham, Wash. Her impressive 2009 season also included a semifinal finish at the PNGA Women's Amateur and a trip to the round of 64 at the Trans-National Amateur.
"Pamela's Player of the Year recognition is very well deserved," said Indiana head coach Clint Wallman. "She is one of the premier players in amateur golf and I expect her to garner similar awards throughout her collegiate career."
In her first season at IU, Burneski has competed in all four tournaments, with her top finish a tie for 16th at the Mary Fossum Invitational in East Lansing, Mich. She has a low round of 71 in the opening round of the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., where she finished tied for 45th. Burneski will close out the fall season Nov. 2-3 at the Challenge at Onion Creek in Austin, Texas.
