HOOSIERS VS. THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT
No. 18 Indiana will face Northwestern for a second time this season after defeating the Wildcats, 2-1, in Bloomington on Oct. 17. However, Northwestern leads the all-time series with Indiana, 9-6.
Senior Haley Funk and redshirt freshman Morgan Fleetwood scored goals for the Hoosiers in their most recent win, while junior Alex Mann tallied four saves in 70 minutes in goal, anchoring an IU defense that kept one of the league's best scoring teams to just one goal on seven shots.
The Wildcats are led by Chelsea Armstrong with 22 goals and 12 assists for 56 points in 19 games. She leads the Big Ten in shots (91), shots per game (4.79), points, points per game (2.95), goals and goals per game (1.16).
HOOSIER NOTABLES
• The Hoosiers ended the regular season on a five game win streak, beginning with a 3-1 victory over Central Michigan on Oct. 10. Since then, IU posted wins over Northwestern, Penn State, Pacific and Michigan. Indiana has also won seven of their last eight games since Oct. 2.
• Mutsa Mutembwa tied IU's career defensive saves mark with seven in 53 games, matching Hoosier All-American and 2008 Olympian Kayla Bashore (2001-05). She also owns four defensive saves this season, ranking second in the single-season record book. Mutembwa was also honored as Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 7.
• As a redshirt freshman, Morgan Fleetwood ranks fourth in IU's single-season record book with 11 goals and 28 points. With 73 shots taken on the year, she is just four shots from breaking Kayla Bashore's record of 76, set during the 2005 season.
• Shareyna Chang picked up IU's first ever Big Ten Freshman of the Week award on Oct. 26 after helping the Hoosiers to back-to-back wins over Penn State and Pacific.
• Junior Alex Mann was honored with Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors twice during the season. Mann has started in goal for the Hoosiers all season and tallied 60 saves for a record of 12-5.
HOOSIERS IN THE POLL
The Indiana field hockey team stayed at No. 18 (209 points) in this week's Kookaburra/NFHCA Coaches poll after extending its win streak to five with a win at Michigan last weekend.
IRELAND, O'CONNELL NAMED TO SENIOR ALL-STAR ROSTER
Seniors Lucy Ireland and Meg O'Connell have been selected to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Senior All-Star roster. This year's senior all-star game is scheduled to be played on Saturday, Nov. 21 at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. ET.
Ireland, a native of Chapel, Hill, NC, has started all 16 games for the Hoosiers at back and tallied an assist and a shot. She was part of an IU defense that held the Big Ten's highest scoring team, Northwestern, to just one goal on seven shots for a 2-1 win in Bloomington on Oct. 17. On her career, she has started 46 games and played in 56.
O'Connell, a midfielder from St. Louis, Mo., has also started in all 16 games for Indiana and owns five goals on 29 shots with five assists for 13 points. On her career, she has started 70 games and played in 71, with 17 goals, 12 assists, 91 shots and 48 points.
