BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's water polo team remains ranked No. 18 in the Varsity Top 20, as the latest Collegiate Water Polo Association polls were released Tuesday. The top two teams in the Varsity Poll, USC and Stanford, stayed put as they have since the preseason.
The Hoosiers (1-6) moved up one spot to No. 3 in the CWPA Poll, trading positions with now No. 4 Princeton. Michigan and Hartwick continue to occupy the top two positions.
Indiana lost three games over the weekend at the Stanford Invite, as well as narrow 6-5 exhibition loss to the U.S. Junior National Team. A glance at the polls tells the story as to how difficult each match-up was for the Hoosiers.
They opened the tournament with an 11-2 loss to the host No. 2 Stanford Cardinal. Indiana then took No. 10 Arizona State down to the wire in a 10-9 overtime defeat, in a game which the Hoosiers led by one during the first half of the overtime period. Indiana then had a competitive contest with No. 1 USC, but ultimately lost 13-5.
Indiana had multiple performances of note over the weekend. Sophomore Amy Moore tied a school record for single game scoring with six goals in the loss to Arizona State. She leads the Hoosiers in goals this season with 13.
Freshman Cassie Wyckoff was named the CWPA Western Division Rookie of the Week for her play at the Stanford Invite, after posting 27 saves and 10 steals. Her weekend included single game career-highs of 15 saves and four steals, both coming against Arizona State.
The Hoosiers are out of action for two weeks before heading back to California for the UC Santa Cruz Slugfest on February 28.
