BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced the National Academic Squad for the 2008 season this week, and the list includes 14 Hoosiers, the most in program history. Prior to the 2008 season, Indiana twice had 12 honorees, including the 2007 season.
To qualify for the award, players must maintain a grade point average above 3.3. Of the 77 teams with players receiving the honor, only 17 had 14 or more. This is the fifth straight year that the NFHCA has honored 10 or more IU players.
Indiana head coach Amy Robertson is excited to see her players excelling in the classroom. She said that she wants her team to strive to be the best they can be on and off the field.
"We are proud and honored that so many members of our field hockey team have achieved a GPA of 3.3 and higher and continue to embrace a commitment to excellence in the classroom," said Robertson. "Our team has been committed to raising the bar both on the field and off and has consistently performed at a high academic level."
The Hoosiers return to action on Sunday, March 29, when they host Ball State and Louisville to start Longstreth Midwest Spring League play. Indiana will also host the first annual IU Alumni game on March 28. Stay tuned to IUHoosiers.com for complete coverage of IU Field Hockey.
