LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Throughout the 2009 Indiana water polo season, members of the team will be keeping a journal of their travels for IUHoosiers.com. Sophomore Kelsey Campbell checked in from Los Angeles, Calif., where the Hoosiers took part in the Loyola Marymount Tournament.

We all stumbled onto the bus bright and early at 4 a.m. to begin our spring break adventure. Even though our flight didn't have our favorite trivia game, we were all excited for a direct flight without plane changes and flight cancellations. Our first celebrity spotting of the trip came as we were boarding the plane in Indy: Melissa Etheridge.
When we got off the plane...disaster struck. Amy Moore's bag was stolen. Luckily, the young man who accidentally took it was nice enough to return it, and even put a complimentary bag of half-eaten trail mix in it, which lifted Amy's spirits and we were on our way to the hotel to get unpacked.
After settling in at the hotel, we set off to LMU for a quick warm-up practice. We went and walked along Santa Monica to find dinner and see the shops. While some teammates were lucky enough to observe our second celebrity sighting: Adam Sandler, others (myself included) instead waited a half hour to see someone flip over four people, only to have the people taken away and the performers flipped over pylons instead...major disappointment. Upon our return, we all crashed immediately and got some much needed rest for our games on Saturday.

This morning we woke up at the hotel and rushed out of the room to grab some Jamba Juice and bagels for breakfast. Our first game was against CS-Bakersfield and our first quarter was an all too familiar first game off the plane Indiana start. We battled back from the 4-0 deficit and took the game. Our next game against LMU came soon after. We managed to eat a quick snack, courtesy of the Moore's and then we were back in the pool. It was a hard fought game that didn't quite go our way.
We then went off to do what we do best (after water polo that is)....EAT. The Sands family hosted a lovely dinner for us, complete with delicious "yellow things" for dessert. There seems to be some misunderstanding concerning how many hot dogs I did in fact eat, thanks to Stef Winter. For the record, I did not eat a half dozen hot dogs. After the meal, it was off to bed to rest for another day of games.

This morning we woke up and grabbed breakfast quickly before heading to the pool for our games. We lost our first game to CSU-Northridge. After we won our second game, against CS-San Bernardino, we all piled into the vans for our long drive to training in Las Vegas. The sophomore van, led by Joel (team trainer), munched on chocolate covered pretzels and fresh California oranges, courtesy of Amy Moore's backyard orange trees.
Eventually we made it to our halfway point, In-N-Out, where we mowed down some shakes and burgers. When we finally pulled up to the Vegas strip at night everyone's moods shifted from groggy to hyperactive. Kate Dunn would not stop yelling that we were staying at the greatest hotel ever (The Excalibur), and Stef Winter was excited to enter her kingdom. Unfortunately, it was late and we were all exhausted from traveling, so it was off to bed.
